As far as I can tell, the install recovered nicely. I have a working KDE desktop that I’m configuraing now. Actually, I killed the install using Ctrl+C, shut down, and picked it back up several times when the CD-ROM refused to read. When everything appeared to have installed, I ran apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. I also had to run dplg –configure -a. I’m not sure at this point which packages may have been dropped or lost in the process. I’ll poke around a bit more and let you know.
All in all, short of CD-ROM failure, this was a pretty easy install.

I have been waiting for this one! I wanted to see what others have thought of my favorite distribution. In all fairness a replacement cdrom drive should have been in order for the install. The failing drive did however show one of Debian’s and Libranet’s strengths. That was good recovery. To see what is installed you might try the command “dpkg -l | less”.
I tried 3-4 other distros before I got to Libranet and several more afterwards. From Alfa Linux to WinLinux, Libranet was the one that really found a place on my harddrives. I tried it initially because I wanted to try Debian and Loved it because Jon and Tal went to great lengths to make it useable, AND it was Debian. I started with ver 1.9.1 and upgraded every time they made a new release. Their current distro is on 2 of my 5 desktops (I have kids). The remaining 3 all run some version of Libranet. As with any flavor of Linux it is extremely tweakable, either from a GUI with Xadminmenu or from a CLI. It really is a powerful system. I feel that Libranet on a desktop has RedHat beat hands down. From its installation and ease of use to its stability and easy upgradeability. I found it to suite me to a “T”. Hopefully others will see the true potential they have unlocked in Debian with Libranet ! It really is a friendly install. Enjoy !
